Hooper’s Island is gradually disappearing into the Chesapeake Bay, and taking with it a long history of Bay culture. This painting is based on a study painted at this magical place. While I was painting, a flock of glossy ibises flew over, a rare sight here. For me, this painting tells many stories of what’s happening around us.

Art for Land’s Sake

A biennial invitational exhibition to support the conservation work of the Valleys Planning Council.

October, 2017

Details to come.

This painting has been in the works for many years, inspired by a month of traveling around India long ago. This oarsman on the Ganges River rowed me around at sunrise while I did some watercolor sketching in the boat, dipping my brush in the river for water. The Ganges is a holy river, a source of solace, a final resting place, a beautiful escape, a place of commerce and tourism….many things to many people.
